Paulo C. Azevedo Jr.

PhD Candidate

Academic title: MSc

I started my PhD degree in the Fall of 2020, and will submit the thesis to the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) by year-end 2024.

My work tracks how shipping firms and investors are navigating the energy transition. More specifically, I investigate the connections between sustainability performance, asset prices, ownership structure, financial performance and corporate discourse. In addition, I'm interested in alternative fuels, particularly LNG and biofuels. My supervisor is Professor Haiying Jia.

I have a background in naval architecture & ocean engineering (Poli-USP, Brazil), production engineering (UFAM, Brazil), and shipping business (HSBA, Germany). I am now based in Bergen, Norway, where I’m associated with the Center for Applied Research (SNF).

Former experience includes ship design, shipbuilding and newbuildings project management. I also write about Latin America’s maritime business at Maritime South.
